SELANGAU: Efforts to rebuild Rumah Panjang Jimbun Gerang in Nanga Alat, Batang Oya have been intensified with the distribution of roofing materials aimed at expediting the reconstruction of homes affected by a fire.

The assistance was handed over recently by Selangau Parliamentary Service Centre officer Munan John Andrew, who represented Selangau MP Edwin Banta. The aid was channelled through the Projek Mesra Rakyat (MyKhas) allocation.

The longhouse was completely destroyed in a fire on January 23, 2013, which gutted 25 doors and disrupted the lives of approximately 200 residents. The incident necessitated the rebuilding of the entire structure from the ground up.

The latest assistance forms part of a long-term recovery effort for the affected community. The project was announced by Edwin during his visit to the longhouse in August 2025.

In addition to the roofing materials, he also approved an allocation of RM50,000 under the Projek Mesra Rakyat (MRP) in 2025 to support the reconstruction of the longhouse’s basic structure.
