KUCHING: The Love Blooms event will take place from Feb 11 to 14, from 5 pm to 9 pm, at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park in conjunction with the upcoming Chap Goh Mei celebration.

Co-organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Midin Media, the highlight of the celebration will be on Feb 12 with a line-up of cultural performances and activities.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the event will feature five key cultural programmes, including mandarin orange tossing, matchmaking activities, lion and dragon dance performances, a fireworks display, and a chinese orchestra performance.

“Chap Goh Mei is often regarded as the Chinese Valentine’s Day, symbolising love, new beginnings, and family togetherness. Love Blooms is designed to create a lively atmosphere where people can celebrate, connect, and embrace our shared cultural heritage.

“We invite as many people as possible to join the celebration,” he said at a press conference at the MBKS building today.

Wee also expressed gratitude to the Kuching Foochow Association, which is generously sponsoring 300 angpows for children on Feb 12, spreading festive joy to the younger generation.

“Their contributions exemplify strong corporate social responsibility, and we truly appreciate their commitment to giving back to the community,” he added.

The event aims to preserve and promote the tradition of mandarin orange tossing during the Lantern Festival, enhance Kuching’s appeal as a cultural tourism destination, engage the community through interactive matchmaking activities and performances, and provide a platform for local businesses to participate in a themed Valentine’s market.

Also present at the press conference were MBKS councillor Sufian Ateng, Kuching Foochow Association chairman Datuk Yii Chi Hau, and Midin Media Sdn Bhd director Vincent Toh.
