SARATOK: A Myanmar national who fell into Sungai Krian from a docked ship last Friday (Aug 8), was found dead with only the lower half of his body recovered today (Aug 11).

The victim, identified as Thu Htoo Aung, 20, was a crew member of the Moi Soon 2, which was berthed at Batu Pekan Wharf, when he was believed to have fallen overboard at around 9.30 am.
Fellow crew members attempted to search for him but failed to locate his whereabouts, prompting a police report at Saratok police station.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said at 12.23 pm today, the search team received information from villagers who spotted a floating body at Sungai Lubuk Petan near Kampung Kupang — about a 15 to 20-minute boat ride from the wharf.
Firefighters together with police retrieved the remains at 12.35pm and brought them to a nearby jetty. Police later confirmed the body to be the missing crewman.
Authorities confirmed that the remains were incomplete, consisting only of the lower half of the body from the waist down, with visible bite marks.
The body was handed over to police for further action, and the search operation ended at 1.40 pm.
