KUCHING: Ten air quality monitoring stations across Sarawak recorded hazardous or very hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of noon today (Sept 1), with Lubok Antu breaching the 400 mark.
Based on the latest Department of Environment (DOE) and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) data, Lubok Antu recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 404, placing it in the very hazardous category.
Serian recorded an API of 396, followed by Kuching at 389, Lundu (368), Tebedu (367), Kanowit (364), Samarahan (357), Sarikei (346), Sri Aman (343) and Sibu (330).
Kuching and Serian showed some improvement from their 8am readings of 407 and 408 respectively, although both remained at hazardous levels.
Air quality remained very unhealthy in Betong at 256, Bintulu (242), Mukah (241) and Samalaju (237).
ILP Miri recorded an API of 189, followed by Kapit (184), Miri (183), Limbang (168), Lawas (166) and Bario (147), all within the unhealthy category.
Under the API classification, readings of 101 to 200 are classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, 301 to 400 hazardous and 401 to 500 very hazardous.
