KUCHING: Lubok Antu Member of Parliament (MP), Roy Angau Gingkoi, has announced his intention to contest for the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief post, pledging to inject fresh, inclusive ideas that reflect the aspirations of the younger generation.

The 46-year-old Dayak leader, who is also a practising lawyer, said the youth should be viewed not merely as heirs to the party’s leadership but as strategic partners in shaping its direction.

“The young generation of Sarawak has great potential – from creative talent and entrepreneurship to grassroots leadership. I will ensure their voices are not only heard but given space to shape the future,” he said in a statement today.

Roy said he has received strong grassroots support from young members across the state who are prepared to nominate him for the position.

He added that PRS Youth must serve as a bridge between party leadership and young people, including those in rural areas who often face challenges in accessing education, technology, and economic opportunities.

“I want PRS Youth to be a fresh, active, and relevant movement – one that does not merely follow change but leads it,” he said.

He also acknowledged backing from various quarters to contest the post, describing it as a key motivation for his decision.

“I believe the party needs a comprehensive transformation after 20 years to remain relevant and competitive for the next two decades. With new leadership, we can bring PRS towards a more progressive and capable future,” he added.

Roy said contests within the party should be seen as a normal and healthy democratic process.

“It is an opportunity to test the ideas, visions and capabilities of candidates. We may compete as comrades, but we will remain united in our shared struggle for the people of Sarawak,” he said.

With experience as a parliamentarian, legal practitioner, and youth activist, Roy is confident PRS Youth can become a core voice in building a more progressive, inclusive and forward-looking Sarawak.
