KUCHING: Top honours in the Breaking News Run 2025’s flagship 10km race went to Lucas Wong and Lim Siet Fah.

The inaugural event held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) saw over 600 participants lace up their shoes across three categories: the HSL 10km Competitive Run, and the 5km and 3km Fun Runs.

The event was headlined by Hock Seng Lee (HSL) as the main sponsor.

In the men’s open 10km category, Lucas Wong led the charge to finish first, followed by Mohd Mustafa Abdul Rahman in second place and Ericko Mightgambang Lit in third.

Meanwhile, Lim Siet Fah emerged champion in the women’s open 10km, with Sharon Chew Tze Xuan and Lin Wei Na placing second and third respectively.

More than just a race, the Breaking News Run 2025 served as a platform to spotlight collaboration between media practitioners, corporate sponsors, and civic leaders.

The MBKS grounds were transformed into a festive hub of activity, complete with wellness booths, lucky draws, and networking opportunities that extended over two days, including the race pack collection.

Families, students, journalists, and seasoned runners came together in a strong show of solidarity for health and community engagement.

Organised jointly by the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Sarawak Branch, the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), and Revolution Run, the event reflected the growing spirit of cooperation in the region’s media landscape.

CJA Sarawak president Alice Wee expressed her gratitude to the sponsors, volunteers, and participants who made the event a success.

“We are proud to show that journalists are not only voices of society but active members contributing to its wellbeing.

“This run embodies the spirit of collaboration and energy we want to see in the region’s media landscape. Today, we’re not just reporting the news, we’re part of making it,”she said.

KDJA president Ronnie Teo added that the event marked a new chapter in media collaboration.
