KUCHING: Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) Director, Datuk Dr Lulie Melling, has been appointed as a Hokkaido University Global PR Ambassador for the term from December 12, 2025 to March 31, 2027.
In announcing her appointment, Lulie expressed gratitude to the leadership of Hokkaido University for the trust placed in her, describing the role as both an honour and a responsibility.
“I accept this appointment with humility, mindful that any contribution I make will stand on the work of many mentors, colleagues, partners and communities who have walked this journey with me,” she said.
She added that her role as a Global PR Ambassador would focus on strengthening connections between researchers, institutions and the wider public, to ensure that scientific knowledge is not only advanced but also communicated clearly and responsibly.
“In this role, I hope to support the progression of science and education by strengthening bridges between researchers, institutions and the wider public, so that knowledge has real-world impact,” she said, adding that she looks forward to promoting collaboration, encouraging young talent and upholding the core values of science, including integrity, curiosity and service.
Lulie also thanked those who have supported her work over the years, saying she would carry out the role with diligence and respect.
She currently serves as president of the Malaysian Peat Society and is a member of the executive board of the International Peatland Society (IPS).
In addition, she is actively involved with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) Sarawak Chapter.
