KUCHING: Muhammad Luqman Daniel Roji delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ATC), winning gold in the para-cycling men’s tandem sprint B, silver in the individual pursuit and bronze in the kilometre time trial.
While his victories were a testament to his skill and determination, the road to success was not without its challenges.
Luqman Daniel, who competed with 26-year old Ahmad Ahlami Mohammad, admitted that doubts crept in when they had to face Kazakhstan’s Kirill Ilyukevich and his pilot, Anton Lavrentyev in the individual pursuit finals last Saturday.
However, instead of letting the pressure overwhelm him, he turned it into motivation.
“I knew we were up against one of the best in Asia, but that only pushed us to work harder and give them a taste of competition,” the Sarawak Cycling Association athlete told Sarawak Tribune on Thursday.
Undeterred by their earlier defeat, Luqman Daniel and Ahmad Ahlami returned stronger the following day in the men’s tandem sprint B.
They showcased remarkable speed and tactical precision to overcome the Thai duo of Surachai Yokphanitchakit and his pilot, Jetsada Janluang, securing a well-deserved gold medal for Malaysia.
Reflecting on his performance, Luqman Daniel said: “All I could think about at the time was committing to push every ounce of power onto the pedals.”
For Luqman Daniel, winning at the Asian Track Cycling Championships was not just about medals — it was about building a path towards an even bigger dream.
“The end goal is to compete in the Olympics at least once, and winning the Asian Championship was definitely a stepping stone for me to make myself qualify for it,” he said.
With the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand up next, he remains focused on improving and seizing every opportunity to elevate his career.
The ATC took place at National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan from Feb 21 to 27.
