KUCHING: There is no need to renegotiate the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as it is a straightforward agreement, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.

Hence he could not understand why there is a need to negotiate “when it’s based on the formation of the Federation of Malaysia”.
“Besides, there is nothing complicated about the agreement,” he said when commenting on the MA63 technical committee meeting held in Putrajaya.
He said MA63 had always been, and should always be intact in its original state, that is, until and unless its substance had been dissolved by mutual consent from all signatories – Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya, or repealed by breach of the international treaty conditions.
“Renegotiation of MA63 is a delaying tactic by Malaya to frustrate Sarawakians and Sabahans, thus allowing Putrajaya to continue sucking the wealth from these two eastern regions.
“We must understand that without MA63, there would be no nation called Malaysia. There would be just Malaya. In other words, what is there to negotiate?” Masing concluded.
