KUCHING: The Sarawak government is continuing to champion and advocate its demand for the 35 per cent representation in parliament.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said discussions related to MA63 remain active and continuous, with the next meeting to be determined by the main committee overseeing negotiations.

In this context she stressed that Sarawak remains steadfast in its pursuit of key unresolved matters under the agreement.

“Negotiations on MA63 are indeed ongoing and continuous. We are waiting for when the next meeting will be held,” she said.

A central issue is the call for 35 per cent representation for Sabah and Sarawak in the Dewan Rakyat, a figure seen as critical to restoring the balance of power envisioned initially when Malaysia was formed.

“This is something we will continue to advocate for and champion.

“Negotiations, discussions, and deeper deliberations on our demand for 35 per cent parliamentary representation will indeed continue,” she said.

Sharifah Hasidah acknowledged that a final decision has yet to be reached but reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to pursuing the matter through formal negotiation platforms established under the federal-state MA63 framework.

“This is an ongoing effort, and all our outstanding demands under MA63 that have not yet been resolved or finalised will also be pursued through discussions and dialogues within the formal platforms that have been established,” she added.
