KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) denied allegations that it was used to investigate candidates who contested in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election last May, as claimed by former Economy Minister, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, in a recent podcast.

In a statement today, MACC said the accusation is baseless, adding that investigations are carried out solely based on complaints or information received.

According to MACC, every complaint with merit will undergo verification and investigation processes in accordance with the laws and established procedures.

“The allegation that MACC ‘surrounded the house’ of certain individuals is inaccurate. In the case referred to, investigating officers went to the residence to meet the individual and conduct a search to obtain evidence.

“This is a standard investigative method, including the element of surprise, to prevent the risk of evidence being destroyed. After confirming that the individual was not at home at that time, the officers left as usual,” the statement said.

The following day, the individual voluntarily came to the MACC office, where his statement was recorded, after which he was released without detention.

According to MACC, all actions taken were in line with legal and investigative requirements. It urged any dissatisfied party to file a complaint through the available official channels, such as the police or the MACC Complaints Committee.

The MACC also called on all parties not to make baseless accusations publicly on social media without evidence, as such actions could undermine public confidence in the country’s enforcement institutions. – BERNAMA
