MACHAN assemblyman, Allan Siden Gramong, highlighted the pressing need to ensure safe and reliable connectivity for residents through the immediate upgrade of several key roads in his constituency.
He noted that the Kampung Muhibah road has become uneven and hazardous, affecting daily travel and access for residents.
“Residents of Kampung Muhibah, including Ngemah assemblyman, Anyi Jana, whose house is in the area, have raised concerns about the worsening condition of the main road.

“The situation has been made worse by heavy trucks using the route during drain construction.
“Immediate action is needed to ensure the safety of the community and prevent the road from deteriorating further,” he said this when debating on the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
Allan also raised concerns over other roads in Machan, including routes to Pekan Machan, Jalan Lipus and Jalan Batu Luking to Rumah Surat, Nanga Mitam, which were affected by recent floods.
He then suggested measures such as raising low-lying sections, improving drainage, using durable road surfacing, and adding culverts to reduce disruptions during flash floods.
“I also called for a safety study at Bulatan Kanowit on the Pan Borneo route, which has been the site of frequent accidents,” he added.
Allan further proposed the construction of a bridge over Batang Rejang to connect Machan with Ngemah.
He said the bridge would improve daily mobility, access to education and essential services, and support economic activities in the surrounding areas. The project is seen as a long-term investment for both current and future residents along the river.
Other roads highlighted for upgrades include Jalan Bukong-Jagoi-Lesih, Jalan Penyulau-Lukut, Jalan Kanowit-Song, Jalan Mission Kanowit, Jalan Sekuau-Rantau Kemiding-Melipis-Lipus, and Jalan Simpang Machan-Pekan Machan.
These routes are key for access to schools, agricultural areas, and towns, but are often disrupted during flash floods, with water levels reaching up to five to eight feet.
Allan urged relevant agencies to prioritise these works to ensure road safety, maintain connectivity, and support the local economy.
