PADAWAN: The Malaysian government has reaffirmed its commitment to easing the cost-of-living burden on ordinary Malaysians through the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM).

The permanent government initiative with a fixed annual budget covers 600 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies nationwide, with each constituency receiving at least three sessions per month.

Unlike ad hoc relief efforts, PJRM operates on a fixed schedule that is publicly accessible through official social media channels.

Members of the public can view upcoming sessions in their area, DUN constituency, or parliamentary constituency, making it easier for those who need it most to plan their purchases in advance.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali revealed that between Jan 1 and Mar 31 alone, a total of 7,320 PJRM sessions were held across the country, generating 7,387,213 transactions — a figure that reflects the overwhelming public response to the programme.

“The programme offers discounts of between 10 and 30 percent compared to prevailing local market prices, covering essential goods such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, eggs and chicken,” he said at the ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ programme at Kampung Bratan yesterday (Apr 13).

As for Sarawak, the state recorded 775 PJRM sessions with 761,398 transactions over the same period — figures that underscore the programme’s reach and effectiveness in a state with widely dispersed communities.

“This approach is in line with the MADANI Government’s commitment to ensuring that no segment of society is left behind in accessing essential goods at affordable prices,” he added.

In the face of ongoing global energy uncertainty stemming from the conflict in West Asia — which continues to exert pressure on supply chains and logistics costs, particularly for imported goods — KPDN has pledged to further expand the programme’s geographical reach and frequency in a targeted manner, reinforcing PJRM as a key intervention tool against rising prices.
