KUCHING: The atmosphere at St Paul’s Church, Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya here was hushed.
In the main hall of the church, the coffin of the late Datuk Dr Madeline Berma lay in state with dignity, surrounded by fresh floral tributes symbolising love, respect and cherished memories she leaves behind.
One by one, family members, close friends and acquaintances arrived to pay their final respects.
The faces present clearly showed restrained grief, yet at the same time reflected gratitude for having shared moments of life with the late Madeline.
Some stood for a long while beside the coffin, offering silent prayers, while others were unable to hold back their tears.
The funeral service, which lasted nearly an hour, was conducted in a solemn and reverent manner. Hymns and prayers filled the church, creating a calm and deeply moving atmosphere.
In his tribute, Reverend Father Johnson Lapok remembered the late Madeline as a principled, caring and humble individual despite her esteemed position and remarkable achievements.



“Her contributions and services, whether in her career or in community life, form a legacy that will continue to be remembered and appreciated,” he said.
The late Madeline, widely known for her noble character and dedication to society, was taken out of the church with full honours before being laid to rest at the SDNU Cemetery, Siol Kandis.
Overcast skies accompanied the funeral procession, further deepening the solemn and poignant atmosphere as the late Madeline was brought to the cemetery, accompanied by prayers and final tributes from family members, friends and acquaintances in attendance.
Her passing leaves a void, but her memories and the example of her life will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
