KUCHING: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has expressed her deep sadness over the passing of Datuk Dr Madeline Berma, describing the late academician as a thinker, adviser and compassionate figure who was deeply committed to the well-being of the community.

Nancy said she received the news of Madeline’s passing yesterday morning.

The prominent academician and community figure passed away at the age of 64 at her residence in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, at about 11.30am.

“Personally, I held her in the highest regard as a scholar and thinker who consistently upheld the value of knowledge, opened spaces for dialogue on socio-economic development, and inspired future generations,” she said.

Nancy said Madeline’s legacy extended beyond academic writings and research, reflecting her dedication to guiding communities, strengthening education and expanding opportunities for community development, particularly in Sarawak.

She said the late scholar was known for her commitment to empowering society and her continued efforts to bridge knowledge with meaningful development.

“Her contributions will continue to be remembered and serve as an inspiration to many,” she said.
