KUCHING: Collaborators and partners involved in the Magnificent Sarawak: Gastronomy Adventure programme were honoured at an appreciation dinner held here tonight (Dec 13).
Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee was among those present at the event.
Organising chairperson Jamie Kho, in her brief remarks, said the dinner was held to express gratitude to all parties who contributed to the success of the gastronomy tour and to encourage continued collaboration in future initiatives.
The Magnificent Sarawak: Gastronomy Adventure programme took place from Oct 14 to 21 and was curated by MULU Global Media, a Beijing-based, Sarawakian-owned cultural content provider under the MULU Group. The tour aimed to showcase Sarawak’s diverse flavours, indigenous ingredients and rich culinary heritage.
The programme was led by Ipoh-born Chef Addison Liew, together with celebrity chefs from China and Peru — Chef Tam Kwok Fung, Chef Xu Jingye and Chef Eduardo Vargas.
The project will be developed into a six-episode documentary reality series to be streamed on the Youku platform under the Alibaba Group.
It is supported by the ASEAN-China Centre under China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Malaysia in Beijing, Royal Brunei Airlines and China Natural Resources Investment Company.
The initiative sought to promote Sarawak as a premier eco-tourism destination in Asia while introducing the state’s cultural and gastronomic diversity to the Chinese market and global audiences through food and people. It also aimed to strengthen long-standing Malaysia–China relations by fostering deeper cultural ties through gastronomy.
The next series of Magnificent Sarawak will spotlight destinations including Bario, Mulu, Kapit and Bintulu.
