KUCHING: Magnum Bhd (Magnum) has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) by contributing RM45,000 towards the upcoming Kuching Festival Food Fair 2025.
The contribution marks yet another milestone in the collaboration between Magnum and MBKS, a partnership that has spanned over three decades in support of the annual festival.
“This contribution is not merely financial; it is a gesture of trust, shared values and commitment to the community that both MBKS and Magnum hold dear,” said MBKS Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, in his welcoming remarks.
He said this at the handing over of Magnum’s sponsorship at Level 3A, Committee Room, MBKS, here today.
The Kuching Festival Food Fair 2025 will be held from July 25 to August 17 at Dewan Masyarakat MBKS, a staple event in the city’s calendar that showcases the rich tapestry of local culture and cuisines.
“This year’s fair will feature 320 food stalls, three beer stalls, and one dedicated drink stall, offering a wide array of local and international flavours.
“One of the highlights of the Festival is the Chinese Home Cook Delicacy Corner, where various Chinese dialect groups, including Hainan, Chawan, Teochew, Hokkien, Hing Ann, Foochow, Kwong Wai Siew, and Hakka, will each present traditional family recipes over a three-day rotation,” he said.
These cherished dishes reflect cultural heritage and culinary storytelling passed down through generations.
“Another key attraction is the Gastronomy Pavilion, which will celebrate Kuching’s international links and its designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
“Sister cities from China, Zhenjiang and Quanzhou will participate and share their culinary traditions, reinforcing cultural bonds through food,” he added.
Closer to home, the Bumiputera Corner will feature traditional Malay and Dayak cuisine, such as lemang, ayam pansuh and kek lapis.
“The space provides an opportunity for indigenous communities to proudly showcase their culinary identity,” he shared.
Wee emphasised that beyond food, the Kuching Festival serves as a platform for economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and community unity.
“Your support helps small businesses, encourages cultural continuity, and keeps our community spirit alive,” he said.
Also present were Vice-President 2 and Regional Head of Magnum 4D ENE (East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Liew Kee Chuan, along with other distinguished guests.
