KUCHING:The Ziarah Mahabbah Ramadan initiative has reached out to 450 people in three villages, providing them supplies for their daily needs and also community support.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the aid included daily essentials to help ease their burden.

“We hope this assistance brings benefits in many ways. Some recipients have even managed to save and build careers from the support given.

“In doing so, they are contributing to the economy and we hope to nurture the culture of giving back to society when they are financially able as mutual support fosters compassion and harmony.

“So far, the Mahabbah Ramadan programme has reached three villages, giving assistance to 150 recipients in each village, namely Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Kampung Buntal, and Kampung Telaga Air,” he told reporters during the event here at Darul Salihin Mosque, Kampung Telaga Air on Tuesday (March 17).

He added that the implementation of these community activities is made possible through collaboration between government agencies, corporate bodies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“We do not limit these programmes to the fasting month alone. We also have upcoming initiatives, such as Sumbangan Ihsan Ramadan and Sumbangan Aidilfitri, to continue supporting those in need,” he added.

He said that welfare programmes such as this will continue to be enhanced for the greater good of the community.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), the Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS), Baitulmal Sarawak, and other agencies, aimed at easing the burden of those in need, including persons with disabilities (OKU), the elderly, bedridden individuals, orphans, and single mothers.
