KUCHING: Mahkota FC etched their name in history by lifting the Liga Bandaraya King ZZ United title without losing a single match, reaffirming their status as a powerhouse in local football.
The title was secured in dramatic fashion after a tense goalless draw against Mix Hajiba in their final league match last night (Feb 22).
With that result, Mahkota FC finished with 49 points, edging past Mix Hajiba, who ended just a point behind at 48, while Tasori settled for third with 44 points.
The champions took home RM10,000 in prize money, with Mix Hajiba earning RM3,500 and Tasori claiming RM3,000.
This season’s Liga Bandaraya kicked off in September 2024, marking only Mahkota FC’s second appearance in the competition. Yet, they went unbeaten throughout, impressing with their attacking flair and rock-solid defence.
Leading the charge was star forward Syazwan Rahmatullah, who netted an astounding 32 goals to finish as the league’s top scorer. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Fareez Hasyim proved instrumental in keeping opponents at bay, conceding just eight goals and earning the title of best goalkeeper.
Team manager Azlan Merikan was full of praise for his squad, highlighting their determination and the unwavering support behind them.
“This triumph is truly a blessing from Allah and a testament to the relentless dedication of our players. Remaining unbeaten speaks volumes about our effort and unity. A huge thank you to all the players, sponsors, families, and loyal fans who have stood by Mahkota FC,” he shared with the Sarawak Tribune today (Feb 23).
Adding experience to the squad was veteran footballer Zamri Morshidi, a former Sarawak FA stalwart who played from 2005 to 2014.
Mahkota FC’s journey began in 2020 as a close-knit group of old schoolmates, but their rise to prominence in competitive football has been nothing short of remarkable.
By 2024, they had firmly established themselves as serious contenders.
With an undefeated season behind them, Mahkota FC now sets their sights on defending their crown and taking on even bigger challenges in the next campaign.
