KUCHING: Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) deputy group chairman Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib (DSM) has filed a lawsuit against the company over a request to inspect its accounts.
CMS said DSM filed an originating summons (OS) on March 5, 2025, at the Kuching High Court.
“This arose from DSM’s request to inspect the accounts. CMS informed him that a suitable time needed to be set due to short notice.
However, DSM proceeded with legal action before the board could finalise the timing,” the company said in a Bursa Malaysia filing.
The OS seeks a court order requiring CMS to allow a registered auditor, accountant or advocate appointed by DSM to inspect the accounts of CMS and five subsidiaries within seven days, subject to a confidentiality undertaking. CMS said it is consulting legal advisors and will respond to protect its interests.
The lawsuit is not expected to impact the company’s earnings, net assets, or operations for the 2025 financial year. Any further developments will be announced to Bursa Malaysia.
