SERIAN: A major festive celebration is set to take place here this year, with the inaugural Christmas Extravaganza scheduled from Dec 24 to Jan 4, 2026, at Empurau Farm and Resort in Tarat.

The 11-day event will be the first of its kind in the district and is expected to draw both local residents and tourists.

A total of 112 vendors will be participating, offering a diverse range of food, beverages, arts and crafts and locally produced products.

Visitors will also be treated to cultural performances from local bands and singers, including a special performance by a group from West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Serian District Council (SDC) Chairman, Datuk Peter Minos, said the council is fully supportive of the initiative, which is organised and financed by Empurau Farm and Resort with advisory support from SDC.

“This event will definitely help drive an increase in tourist arrivals to Serian. It aligns with SDC’s policy to boost tourism development in the district, whether led by the council or in partnership with the private sector, such as Empurau Farm and Resort and the ongoing Tecktonic and Sons project at Serian Lake,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Minos said SDC is currently progressing on eight tourism projects aimed at elevating Serian as a prominent nature-based and community-driven tourism destination.

He said these include Rancang Pool, Bung Sadong Resort, Silabur Cave, Pancor Dayak Hot Spring, Pesang River, Riih Daso Lake, Mentu Tapu Geddes Gallery and Tarat Mawang Rancang Waterfall.

“Once all of these attractions are fully completed in the coming years, Serian will be positioned as a major tourism centre in Sarawak.

“All of this requires extensive planning and collaboration with consultants, agencies and various partners, but the effort is truly worthwhile. I am proud to be part of these developments,” he added.
