SIMUNJAN: Gedong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais has reminded the people to maintain existing racial harmony in Sarawak.

“We, especially in Sarawak, are grateful that we have high tolerance among ourselves even though we live in a multicultural and multi-faith society.

“This value that we uphold allows us not only to live in harmony but allows us to celebrate all kinds of festivals,” he said.

According to Naroden, no religion in the world teaches its followers to hate or antagonise other people.

He added every religion emphasised harmonious living and   respect for one another.

“Religion is not a tool to divide the people, especially here in Gedong. It teaches us to do good and respect each other,” he stressed   while officiating at the pre-Christmas celebration at Tuai Rumah Roport, a longhouse in Kampung Munggu Sabun, Ulu Simunjan on Tuesday.

“Merry Christmas and I hope this Christmas will bless us with good health, peace and tranquility,” added Naroden, who is also Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Assistant Minister.

At the event, he presented grants totalling RM60,000 to 20 churches in Ulu Simunjan areas to enable them to hold religious activities.
