BINTULU: Education and skills are important for the young generation in preparing them for the future challenges, said Samalaju Assemblyman, Majang Renggi.
He said all parties, including teachers, parents and local grassroots leaders have to play their roles in ensuring the young generations receive quality education.
Some 300 people and guests attended the Ngiling Bidai ceremony at the 20-door longhouse of Rumah Kepalin ak Omar, at Mile 32 Bintulu/Bakun Road near here over the weekend.
Additionally, Majang also advised the people to uphold the spirit of unity and harmony among them where the notable living example clearly seen in the said longhouse where five doors occupied by the Iban/Muslims and one by Chinese/Orang Ulu community.
“I am proud to say that Sarawak is the place where the festivals of all ethnic groups are celebrated together and during the festive season, all races come together to greet each other in happiness, joy and of course, with community spirit and social cohesion.
All of us have taken efforts to step out of our racial habitat, out of our own racial circle to share values of our culture with other people, particularly during festive season.
“This is, in fact, a good way to create new attitude, better understanding and goodwill towards another,” said Majang when officiating at the Ngiling Bidai ceremony.
He also reminded the longhouse folks to set up a village security and development committee (JKKK) in every village and longhouse to be proactive in the development of their area.
The community leaders and JKKK are the bridges between the government and people.
He urged the local community leaders to continuously update themselves of the development around them especially at the some of the mega projects just at their doorstep at Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) and to be aware of current government policies and programmes.
Later, Majang announced a government grant of RM9,000 for the JKKK and another RM3,000 for the women bureau for its activities.
Earlier, the longhouse chief, TR Kepalin ak Omar requested for some aid from the government for Kemas Tadika extension block and some repair works on the roofing of the longhouse.
Among those present were the various chiefs of villages and longhouses nearby including TR Unor, TR Junie, TR Bakar, TR Dundang, TR Siba, TR Nanang, TR Sisah, TR Gelayan, TR Tambi, TR Nyalong, TR Mew, TR JematUchak, TR Seliong, TR Mujih and TR Sibat.
