DEBAK: Debak’s Riveria Sport Centre (RSC) is set for a major boost with new floodlights and solar lighting, allowing night-time activities by next year, says Saribas assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam.
Razi, who is also the Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, said installation work has already begun, starting with the placement of lighting poles around the field.
He said the upgrade will start with lighting, noting that while synthetic turf had been considered, it is not feasible due to long-term maintenance constraints.
“Floodlights will be installed, along with solar lighting surrounding the field. This will allow the community to carry out night-time activities once everything is completed,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.
Razi added that the Riveria area is already a popular evening gathering spot, with residents frequently engaging in recreational activities around the field and nearby open spaces.
“With the lighting upgrades, the community can enjoy a safer and more conducive environment for sports and leisure activities at night,” he said.
The installation of the new lighting systems is expected to be completed within one to two months, making the facility ready for community use by early next year.
“InshaAllah, the upgraded field will be ready for use next year. This will enable the local community to engage in more futsal and football activities during the evening,” he added.
Razi also said that the wider Riveria zone will eventually be enhanced with a recreation-themed community park, complementing the improved field and creating a more vibrant public space for residents.
For the record, the Riveria Sports Centre received RM4.2 million from the Sarawak Government through the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), and the upgrade work is now underway.
