SIBU: Kampung Kedadak here, which has long been affected by frequent flooding during heavy rain, will soon see major road improvements under a RM1.3-million project implemented by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The initiative followed discussions between Dudong assemblyman, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and PWD to identify long-term solutions to the recurring flood issues faced by residents in the area.

According to a statement from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong Service Centre today, the project aims to enhance the drainage system and improve road accessibility, with completion expected by December 2025.

The scope of works includes topping up the road with an average thickness of 600 millimetres along 600 metres, repairing the road shoulder, constructing earth drains and carrying out premix works.

Tiong said the project was crucial as it not only improved basic infrastructure but also protected the local community from the impact of recurring floods.

He hoped to significantly reduce the flood risk and, at the same time, provide safer and more comfortable access for road users with this project.

“I will ensure my Service Centre officer continue to monitor its progress to ensure timely and high-quality completion.

“This effort reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that rural communities enjoy better and safer infrastructure,” Tiong, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, added.
