SEBAUH: The town here will undergo a major transformation with the development of a new Sebauh township which has been approved by the Sarawak government.

This project is expected to change the landscape of the area with various modern facilities to meet the needs of the growing population.

Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said the new town will take into account basic needs as well as safety from the risk of flooding.

“I have long voiced the need to develop new shops and infrastructure in Sebauh.

“Now, with this approval, we will ensure that development is done in an organised manner with the help of consultants to determine the best location for hospitals, business premises, and other facilities,” he said.

He was speaking at the Sebauh Chinese New Year 2025 Unity Dinner organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Sebauh Town at the SJK(C) Chung San Hall, here, yesterday (Feb 17).

The Kemena assemblyman also informed that the new Sebauh bridge project is almost complete, adding that it will connect the old town with the new urban area.

This infrastructure is expected to facilitate access, expand the economic network, and increase the mobility of residents and traders.

“In addition, several other projects are also planned and are being implemented.  Among them, the groundbreaking for the new mosque construction project scheduled for March 1, the awarding of the mini stadium construction project to the contractor, the proposed church construction project which is currently in the final approval process from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and the Sebauh Cliff development project, with the design almost complete and expected to be launched this year.

According to Dr Rundi, with over 30,000 residents and an economy based on palm oil commodities, Sebauh has great potential to develop into a modern and organised new township.

“Sebauh will turn into a viable new town, benefiting the residents and strengthening the local economy,” he added.

Also present were the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Collin Patan, Sebauh District Officer Thaddeus Ling Bartholomew Allu and Sebauh Town JKKK chairman, Yew Geok Poh.
