KUCHING: It was a night to remember when senior citizens and persons with disabilities came together for a fun-filled Malam Mesra 2025 at the Pertubuhan Orang Cacat Sarawak (POCS) centre on Saturday night.

The event was also made merrier with the participation of members of Persatuan Tenpin Boling Negeri Sarawak (PTBNS).

In all, about 150 members from Sarawak Gerontology and Geriatrics Society (SGGS), POCS and PTBNS attended.

The night started with POCS President, Jatan Kidu, expressing gratitude that POCS was able to hold Malam Mesra with SGGS and PTBNS.

“This night is a night for all of us to remember and cherish,” Jatan said.

He explained that the three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were meant to organise the closing of the Gawai Dayak celebration, but changed it to Malam Mesra since it was held after June and past the Gawai month.

The night saw members of SGGS, POCS and PTBNS coming up with dance, singing and ngajat performances in addition to participating in lucky draws.

“It is a wonderful event that brought together people from diverse backgrounds to share the joy and to create new connections,” said SGGS President, Dennis Tan.

“It paints a really lovely picture of a night filled with laughter and camaraderie.,” he said, adding that everyone was happy to be able to be a part of it.

“It makes us all to think of how important it is to foster this kind of inclusive event. It really brightens up our community.”

SGGS adviser, Irene Yong, said she believes that SGGS, POCS and PTBNS can continue to work together to enrich their lives.

“We could, just for this pilot team, keep in touch by holding pot luck, BBQ, karaoke and get-together,” she said.

POCS Secretary-General, Donald Law, expressed his hope that the three NGOs would continue to work together, such as holding activities for their members.

He said Malam Mesra was just a beginning for the three NGOs to organise more activities in future.
