PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Brunei have acknowledged Sarawak’s role in strengthening energy cooperation between both nations.
According to a TVS news report, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, welcomed the progress of the cross-border energy interconnection project linking Lumut, Kuala Belait and Tudan.
In their joint statement issued in conjunction with the 26th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC) at Seri Perdana Complex today, the project will ensure a stable energy supply while creating opportunities for bilateral energy trade within ASEAN.
“Both leaders also recognised Sarawak’s growing role in regional energy cooperation,” the statement read.
The leaders further underscored the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak as a catalyst for shared prosperity and regional integration.
They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing strategic initiatives in energy, connectivity, agriculture, tourism and the halal industry.
These initiatives, they said, would harness Borneo’s resources and geographical advantage to bolster food and energy security, develop resilient supply chains, and generate sustainable opportunities for the people.
