KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan attended the 26th Malaysia-Brunei Exchange of Letters (EOL-26) Implementation Meeting held here yesterday.
The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and Brunei Darussalam’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof.
The session served as a key platform to discuss bilateral issues involving the implementation of agreements and understandings signed between both countries.
Among the main focus areas was the strengthening of economic cooperation and cross-border development, aimed at ensuring mutual benefits for communities in both nations, particularly in border regions such as Sarawak and Brunei.
Awang Tengah emphasised the importance of close ties between Sarawak and Brunei, especially in terms of investment and development within the Miri-Limbang-Lawas corridor and the promotion of tourism in northern Sarawak, which he said holds strong economic potential.
The EOL-26 meeting is also part of early preparations ahead of the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei, scheduled for next month and to be hosted by Malaysia.
The high-level meeting will bring together top leaders from both sides to further enhance strategic cooperation.
Sarawak’s active involvement reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening regional collaboration, in line with the federal government’s economic diplomacy agenda.
Malaysia and Brunei are expected to continue fostering strong bilateral ties through the EOL platform and ongoing dialogue between both nations’ leadership, ensuring shared progress and prosperity.
