KUCHING: The Malaysia Day 2025 Celebration in Sarawak, which will be held in Bintulu, will showcase the state’s achievements and progress, with a focus on the town’s rapid growth as a new industrial cluster under the theme “Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia”.

Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the Minister in Charge of the Malaysia Day 2025 celebration, said the celebration will begin on Sept 14 with an Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), followed by a Thanksgiving Ceremony at Assyakirin Mosque on Sept 15.

On the morning of Sept 16, a Malaysia Day Run will be held, followed by the highlight of the celebration at the Old Bintulu Airport, with an estimated attendance of around 10,000 people in the evening.

“This celebration will serve as a platform to showcase Sarawak’s overall development – past, present, and future.

“Focus will also be given to Bintulu as a new industrial cluster, which was also highlighted at the World Economic Forum.

“Therefore, we are eagerly looking forward to Malaysia Day 2025 in Sarawak, which will highlight the state’s major achievements, particularly in Bintulu,” he said at a press conference after a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Wednesday.

He added that the celebration will also emphasise housing development and industrial areas such as in Samalaju, as well as new areas like Jepak Jaya, which are being planned to reduce congestion in Bintulu town.

Dr Rundi said the Premier has agreed with the proposed programme lineup.

He added that Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, will attend as the guest of honor alongside the Premier and other state leaders.

“We are now putting the final touches on all the planned programmes. We have also prepared a video showcasing Sarawak’s development, particularly in Bintulu and also in other towns across the state.

“Through this presentation, we want to show how Sarawak has benefited since the formation of  Malaysia. That is why this year’s celebration theme is ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia,” he said.
