KUCHING: The vibrant streets of Satok came alive early this morning as more than 600 participants joined the inaugural Malaysia Day Fun Walk Satok Edition 1.0, a community event celebrating Malaysia Day through health, unity and patriotic spirit.
Flagging off at the Datuk Amar Juma’ani Bridge at 6.00 am, the five-kilometre fun walk brought together residents from across Kuching, ending at the KSK Satok Sports Complex @ SLPAS Field.
Organised by the KSK Satok Sports Club Committee in collaboration with the N.8 Satok Service Centre, the event aimed to foster unity, encourage healthy lifestyles, and highlight Satok as a hub for recreational activities.
“This Malaysia Day Fun Walk is more than just a leisure activity. It symbolises our shared love for the nation and the strength of our community spirit. I am proud to see people of all ages and backgrounds walking side by side, showing that Satok is truly a model of harmony and togetherness.” said Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki in his opening speech.
Ibrahim , who is also Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response, which included not only the Malay and Muslim communities but also the Chinese, Dayak, Iban, and Bidayuh communities from around the Satok constituency.
“Alhamdulillah, this programme not only provides an opportunity for us to exercise and maintain good health, but more importantly, it serves as a platform for community unity, especially in Satok and Kuching.
“It also instills a sense of patriotism, particularly as we approach Malaysia Day tomorrow, while fostering unity and harmony among people of diverse cultures and religions,” he said.
Ibrahim also conveyed his appreciation to all parties involved in making the event a success.
“The success of this inaugural edition shows great potential for it to become an annual event that can promote Satok as a hub for recreation and urban community activities,” he added.
