KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been elected to the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) for the 2026–2029 term, underscoring its growing role in regional technology cooperation.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said the election took place during the 82nd session of UNESCAP in Bangkok on Tuesday (April 21), with Malaysia among eight countries selected to serve on the council.

“As a key body under the UNESCAP, the APCTT plays an important role in strengthening technical cooperation among its members and associate members. It promotes technology sharing and enhances science, technology and innovation (STI) capacity in support of sustainable development,” the statement stated.

Malaysia, represented by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, has served as a member of the APCTT Governing Council for the terms 2006–2009, 2014–2017, and 2017–2020 since the Centre’s establishment in 1977.

“Malaysia remains committed to supporting the APCTT’s efforts and will continue to actively engage and contribute towards strengthening its role under the auspices of the UNESCAP,” read the statement.
