KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have received a favourable draw in both the men’s and women’s categories of the inaugural Beach Kabaddi World Cup to be held in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, from Sept 23 to 28.

Malaysia are placed in Group A with Tanzania, Hungary and China in the women’s category.

Malaysia and Tanzania are tipped to advance from the group, while Sri Lanka should dominate Group B after being drawn with Kenya, England and Argentina.

Group C of the women’s draw also promises to be interesting as India and Pakistan have been drawn together, along with Hong Kong and the Netherlands.

In the men’s category, Malaysia have been handed, on paper at least, a promising route to the knockout stages after being drawn with Hong Kong, Burundi and Azerbaijan in Group B.

Tournament favourites India are in Group C with Kenya, Argentina, Nepal and the Philippines, while Pakistan are in Group A with Tanzania, the United States, Hungary and Afghanistan.

Group D, meanwhile, comprises Sri Lanka, England, Canada, Sierra Leone and China. – Bernama
