With several events still to be contested — including squash, where all-Malaysia finals are set to take place in both the men’s and women’s singles at 10 am and 11 am (Thai time) on Friday (Dec 19) — Malaysian athletes are expected to maintain their momentum and continue challenging for podium finishes.
Malaysia reached the landmark 200-medal mark in emphatic fashion through track cycling.
The men’s team pursuit quartet of Azim Aliyas, Hafiq Jafri, Yusri Shaari and Lau New Joe struck gold at the Thailand Sports Authority Cycling Track, delivering the milestone medal after finishing ahead of hosts Thailand in the final.
Cycling continued to be Malaysia’s strongest contributor as Ridwan Sahrom claimed gold in the men’s keirin, while Olympian Nur Aisyah Zubir added another top-of-the-podium finish by winning the women’s scratch race.
Meanwhile, the national men’s three-star kabaddi team also created history by clinching the gold medal, adding to Malaysia’s growing medal haul at the Games.
