KUCHING: Discussions are underway to formalize a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Works and Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT).

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the MoU will be focusing on road technology, infrastructure, development and smart construction.

Following his keynote address at the Road and Construction Technology Cooperation Seminar held recently, he said this marks a meaningful collaboration between the Ministry of Works, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK).

“This seminar marks another milestone in our strong and long standing partnership with Korea — a nation that has helped shape some of Malaysia’s most iconic infrastructure such as the Penang Bridge, the Petronas Twin Towers, and Merdeka 118.

“As we commemorate 65 years of diplomatic ties, I’m proud to share that Korean companies have been awarded 89 projects worth RM29.3 billion in Malaysia between 2018 and March 2025,” said Nanta in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

During the seminar, Nanta also highlighted the National Construction Policy 2030 — a strategic roadmap to modernize the construction industry through digitalization, sustainability, and global competitiveness.

“With Malaysia chairing ASEAN this year and Korea being an active dialogue partner, this seminar couldn’t have come at a better time to push forward greater regional collaboration in infrastructure technology,” he said.
