KUCHING: Malaysia doubled the celebrations on home soil by sweeping both titles at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2026 in Petra Jaya here.

Malaysia’s national squad rose to the occasion at the Sarawak Squash Centre from June 18 to 21, securing victories in both the mixed doubles and women’s doubles finals.

Organised by the Squash Racquets Association of Sarawak (SRAS) and sanctioned by the Asian Squash Federation, the four-day championship drew strong international participation, featuring nine countries — Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong (China), India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand.

Thailand also made its debut in the mixed doubles category, adding further depth to an already competitive field. In total, 69 players and 21 officials took part, bringing overall participation to 90 delegates.

The spotlight, however, belonged to Malaysia in the finals.

Malaysia set the tone early in the finals through the women’s doubles, where Yee Xin Ying and Ainaa Amani produced a composed performance to defeat Hong Kong’s Nga Ching Cheng and Heylie Fung 11-6, 11-9 in straight games to secure the first gold of the day.

The momentum continued into the mixed doubles final, where an all-Malaysian showdown produced a thrilling three-game battle.

Rachel Arnold and Ameeshenraj Chandaran fought back from a game down to overcome Ainaa Amani and Mohammad Syafiq Mohd Kamal 6-11, 11-7, 11-9 to seal the second title for Malaysia.

The closing stages of the championship reflected Malaysia’s dominance in doubles, as both finals strengthened its standing in Asian squash.

Among those present at the finals were Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer Mu’azamir Jili and Squash Racquets Association of Sarawak (SRAS) president Lucy Read, who witnessed the conclusion of a successful edition of the continental meet.
