KUCHING: Malaysia will submit its proposed list of sports for the 2027 SEA Games once it takes over the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) chairmanship at the end of the current Games in Thailand.

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the list of 38 sports is still provisional, stressing the NOC’s responsibility to safeguard the interests of the SEA Games and the region’s Olympic movement.

“As custodian of multi-sport Games in Malaysia, the NOC must protect the interests of the SEA Games and all SEAGF member nations,” he said in a Facebook statement today (Dec 9).

Mohamad Norza also delivered Malaysia’s progress report for the 34th SEA Games, which will be hosted across Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor from Sept 18 to 29, 2027, during the SEAGF final council meeting in Thailand on Monday (Dec 8)

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh recently confirmed that athletics, badminton, football, hockey and karate are among the 38 sports listed so far.

The Thailand 2025 SEA Games will open later tonight at the Rajamangala National Stadium and will run until Dec 20 in Bangkok and Chonburi.
