KUALA LUMPUR: All Malaysians who were previously reported stranded in several flood-hit areas in Sibolga, Bukit Tinggi, and several other locations in Sumatra, Indonesia, have been contacted and confirmed safe.
The Malaysian Consulate General in Medan, in a post on its Facebook page today, said that the necessary consular assistance will continue to be provided to Malaysians affected by the disaster.
“The Consulate General has also conducted a consular visit to 135 Malaysian students in Medan who were affected by floods, to check on their welfare and distribute food aid,” according to the statement.
Malaysian citizens who intend to visit the affected areas are advised to be vigilant and to check the travel status and safety level with their travel agent or relevant parties before undertaking their journey.
“Malaysian citizens requiring consular assistance are advised to contact the Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan via telephone at +62 823-6164-6046 (24 hours) or via email at mwmedan@kln.gov.my,” the statement said.
According to the Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan, the current situation in the affected areas is gradually recovering, and the activities of the local community, especially in Medan City, are returning to normal. – BERNAMA
