KUCHING: Malaysia mourns the passing of badminton legend Datuk Tan Yee Khan at the age of 86 today, a player whose achievements helped cement the nation’s place on the global stage.
The Malaysian legend was part of the historic 1967 Thomas Cup-winning team and formed one of the most dominant men’s doubles partnerships of the 1960s alongside the late Datuk Ng Boon Bee.
Together, they won two men’s doubles gold medals at the Asian Games (1962, 1966), All England titles in 1965 and 1966, and the 1965 Asian Championships crown.
Their haul also included three SEA Games golds (1961, 1965, 1967) and five Malaysia Open titles (1963, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968).
Yee Khan’s dedication, talent and trailblazing achievements inspired generations of athletes and helped establish Malaysia as a badminton powerhouse.
