KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s participation at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, has exceeded expectations, recording potential trade and investment worth RM24.45 billion and attracting 3.52 million visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, said the achievement, which is well above initial targets, reflected not only careful planning, but also the collective spirit, sincerity and shared responsibility of all parties involved in delivering Malaysia’s mission on the global stage.
“Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka was undertaken within a short preparation period, yet it carried a major mission to uphold the nation’s dignity and image internationally,” he said when speaking at the ‘Malam Jalinan Harmoni, Sanjungan Budi #Expo 2025 Osaka’ event here on Thursday.
Fadillah said the original targets of 1.5 million visitors and RM13 billion in potential trade and investment demonstrated the government’s confidence in Malaysia’s competitiveness and progressive outlook.
These benchmarks were surpassed through close cooperation between the entire government machinery and strategic partners.
He said the Malaysia Pavilion stood out under the expo’s overarching theme, ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, with an architectural concept inspired by woven bamboo resembling songket patterns.
Carrying the theme ‘Weaving a Future in Harmony’, the pavilion symbolised the fusion of heritage, cultural values and future-oriented innovation, in line with the Malaysia MADANI philosophy.
“The pavilion’s distinctive identity not only showcased our cultural richness but also projected Malaysia as a nation that balances tradition with innovation,” he said.
Fadillah pointed out that the overwhelmingly positive response from international visitors was a source of national pride, with attractions such as the ‘Flying Roti Canai’ capturing global attention and being recognised as one of the most delicious offerings at Expo 2025.
He said this success further strengthened Malaysia’s food diplomacy approach.
Beyond tourism appeal, the Malaysia Pavilion also functioned as a mini-ASEAN hub, reinforcing regional ties and promoting ASEAN solidarity to the world.
“The pavilion’s role in strengthening regional cooperation while opening doors for economic opportunities illustrates the strategic importance of Malaysia’s participation at the expo,” he said.
