SEREMBAN: Malaysia’s trade momentum continues to climb, with exports reaching RM900.47 billion in the first seven months of 2025, up 4.3 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
Its board member Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah said the country’s trade performance shows encouraging momentum.

“Between January and July 2025, we recorded RM1.731 trillion in total trade, with exports worth RM900.47 billion and imports of RM830.16 billion, giving us a trade surplus of RM70.32 billion,” he said.
He said this during the Negeri Sembilan Export Day 2025 at Hotel Royale Chulan on Tuesday.
He pointed out that 2024 had already marked a record year for trade, with total trade reaching RM2.879 trillion, up 9.2 per cent compared with 2023.
“Exports exceeded RM1 trillion for the fourth consecutive year, rising 5.7 per cent to RM1.508 trillion, while imports increased 13.2 per cent to RM1.371 trillion.
“This gave us a surplus of RM136.88 billion, marking the 27th consecutive year of trade surplus since 1998,” he said.
Turning to Negeri Sembilan, Mohammad Medan said the state recorded RM19.27 billion in trade last year, a 3.3 per cent increase from 2023, with exports valued at RM1.03 billion.
“For the first seven months of this year, exports grew 10.2 per cent year-on-year to RM880 million.”
He added that MATRADE had been working closely with companies in the state to strengthen their export performance.
Between 2024 and July 2025, he noted that 200 local firms benefited from exporter development and facilitation programmes, with RM1.5 million in grants helping to generate export sales of RM672.18 million.
“In the same period, 95 export promotion programmes and 1,835 business matching sessions were organised, assisting 72 Negeri Sembilan exporters in generating potential sales worth RM191.64 million,” he said.
He called on more businesses to come forward and register with MATRADE to expand their opportunities abroad.
“As at July 31, 2025, MATRADE had 13,314 registered companies nationwide, but only 315 were from Negeri Sembilan.
“As such, I urge participants here today to take the first step towards exporting by registering as MATRADE members,” he said.
