MALUDAM: A 464.5-hectare site in Maludam has been identified for an integrated agricultural project, revealed Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri yesterday.

“The site has the potential to be a food production area,” she said during the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 1 of the Maludum expansion and Maladum new mosque project.

She also revealed that the Agriculture Department of Betong Branch, Kalaka-Saribas Integrated Agriculture Development Area (IADA) and the Land and Survey Department had worked together to identify the site.

“It will cost about RM50 million to develop this site for agricultural purposes,” added Simoi.

“If the Sarawak government approves this, villagers will be able to produce pineapples, coconut, chillies, tubers and other crops.

“The villagers have high hopes about this project and look forward to earning extra incomes,” she said.

The earth breaking of the expansion scheme project was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Maludam is a small town and sub district in Betong Division.
