PADAWAN: A man has landed in hot soup after impersonating a Bukit Aman police officer to arrest another policeman as a prank.

The 36-year-old will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant.

If convicted, the suspect may face a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect entered the Tapah police station around 3.20pm on Sunday (Feb 19) and was arrested minutes later after pulling off the prank.

The suspect had introduced himself to the complainant and another police officer at the complaint counter that he was a police officer from Bukit Aman and he was there to arrest the complainant.

“He then went back to his car to retrieve a ‘file’ but instead came back with a cake and explained that what he had done earlier was just a prank.

“Seeing that the act had gone too far, the complainant’s colleague gave a warning and asked whether the man was a real policeman or not.

“To which, the suspect claimed that he was a policeman attached to Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID),” he said.

A background check was conducted and the man was not an officer nor a member of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Supt Abang Zainal Abidin pointed out that the man was just a member of the public whose wife runs a cake ordering business.

The public are advised to be careful when carrying out pranks as its effect can cause annoyance and disturb public order.
