MUKAH: A local man was arrested for allegedly beating up his mother in a longhouse in Selangau last Friday (July 14).
Police picked up the suspect after a 26-second video clip went viral on social media, which showed a man beating up an elderly woman.
The 91-year-old victim sustained injuries to her face and was rushed to Selangau health clinic for medical attention before being referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the incident happened on Friday and a police report was lodged around 11pm the same day.
“A police team brought in the 60-year-old suspect for further investigation and action.
“The case is still under investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994,” he said.
Rizal advised the public not to share the video clip related to the case as it could interfere with police investigation.
The public should also not make any speculations which may cause annoyance and threaten public order.
