MUKAH: A 27-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly involvement in online gambling activities during a police raid on a business premises here, on Saturday (Feb 21).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspect was detained at about 4.30pm during an operation by the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said police found in his phone an application believed to be used for online gambling activities.
The mobile phone and RM35 in cash were seized for further investigation.
The suspect tested negative for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM50,000 and imprisonment of up to three years upon conviction.
