KOTA SAMARAHAN: An unemployed man was arrested for allegedly possessing an airsoft revolver during ‘Ops Laras’ at Jalan Kampung Sui here on Tuesday (Jan 27).
The 32-year-old was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), assisted by the Sarawak D8 branch, after a search at an unnumbered house led to the discovery of the weapon.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the airsoft revolver, resembling a Smith & Wesson model, was found on top of a refrigerator and the suspect admitted that it belonged to him.
Also seized were used and unused 12g cartridges, bullet casings and several metal pellets, which were found on a table in the living room.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect bought the revolver for RM1,000 at the Serikin market, near Bau from an unknown Indonesian man.
“He claimed that it was for personal use and to shoot wild animals in his farm.”
Supt Damataries said the seized items have been referred to the Weapons Branch for serviceability testing and official verification.
The suspect is being remanded to facilitate further investigation under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.
