SARATOK: Police have arrested a 33-year-old local man suspected of selling illegal public lottery tickets during an operation at Saratok Bazaar on Sunday (Mar 8).
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was detained by a team from the district Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) during the operation.
The suspect, believed to be operating as an agent for illegal lottery activities, was apprehended at a shop in the bazaar area.
“Police also seized a Redmi 13C mobile phone, a piece of paper containing lottery number records, a blue pencil, and cash,” he said.
Initial investigations revealed that the man, who runs a grocery business in Saratok town, was selling illegal lottery tickets to supplement his daily income.
Background checks showed the suspect had three previous records linked to illegal lottery offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
