MIRI: Police here have arrested a local man suspected of involvement in a theft case at the Seberkas Commercial Centre, in the latest operation to curb property crime in the city.

The suspect was detained at 9.40 am following an operation led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Miri Police Station, ASP Goldy Jangan, together with officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Central Miri Police Station.

Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the offence, including clothing allegedly worn by the suspect during the commission of the crime and a piece of plywood, which has been classified as an exhibit for investigation purposes.

The suspect has been remanded at the Central Miri Police Station lock-up to assist investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which covers theft in a building.

In a statement, police reminded members of the public to respect the law and the property rights of others, and to seek lawful means of earning a living.

They also called on the community to play a proactive role in crime prevention by reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities, stressing that public cooperation remains a critical component in maintaining safety and security in the city.
