MIRI: Police arrested a 60-year-old local man in connection with the theft of two cash bags from a machinery shop here, resulting in losses estimated at RM1,200.
The suspect was detained by a team from the Miri Central Police Station led by officer-in-charge Assistant Superintendent Goldy Jangan, following a report lodged over the incident at Lik Heng Machinery in the city centre.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
Police said the suspect will be brought before the Magistrate’s Court today for a remand application to facilitate further investigations.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah advised business owners and the public to remain vigilant and to take proactive measures to safeguard their property, particularly in and around shop premises.
He said the installation of closed-circuit television cameras in open and high-risk areas could help deter criminal activity.
Members of the public are also advised to promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the police to help prevent crime and maintain public safety.
