BAU: A 38-year-old man has been arrested after police allegedly found a homemade shotgun, live ammunition and a sword in his possession in Kampung Bijuray, Krokong.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the suspect was detained by the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at around 8.05 am yesterday (July 20) during a raid at a hut behind a house.
Police seized a homemade shotgun, a 93cm sword in a red sheath, and a live buckshot shotgun shell found beside a mattress inside the hut.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect claimed the homemade shotgun had been borrowed from an Indonesian man, known only as Motik, who previously worked at an oil palm plantation near the village.
“The suspect told police he had borrowed the firearm for hunting in the forest. He claimed Motik returned to Jagoi Babang, Indonesia in May, leaving the shotgun in his possession, and has since become unreachable.
“Meanwhile, the sword belonged to the suspect’s father, who had bought it as a decorative piece before allowing him to keep it at the hut for his own protection,” he said.
Further investigations also revealed that the suspect allegedly bought the live shotgun shells for RM10 from a man identified only as Aguk, whom he claimed is a licensed firearm holder.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing an unlicensed firearm and an offensive weapon.
Mohd Haide said the seized shotgun will be sent to Batu Kawa Armoury Branch for functionality testing as investigations continue.
